Het oorspronkelijke ontwerp van station Overvecht, stamt uit 1995.  Het is een expliciet ontwerp vanwege de kleuren en uítstekende elementen. Het station raakte echter snel in verval. De kiosk kwam leeg te staan en de trap brokkelde door toedoen van betonrot langzaam af.

HIK-Ontwerpers heeft voor deze ‘entree naar de wijk’  een nieuw ontwerp gemaakt. Door meer groen, een heuse glijbaan, verschillende zitgelegenheden  en een groot deel van te trap te vervangen door lagen van plantvakken. Heeft het station een totaal andere uitstraling gekregen. Waar het vervallen station eerst als onveilig werd ervaren is het nu een ruimte geworden waar je in kan verblijven. Een prachtige plek om te lunchen of te vertoeven.

Dutch train passengers running late to their appointments have a quicker option for getting across Overvecht Station – and that option isn’t a new flight of stairs or an elevator.

Design firm HIK Ontwerpers recently installed a slide in the newly renovated station on the Utrecht-Kampen railway to add a little fun to the everyday lives of commuters. Officially called a “transfer accelerator,” the slide was installed in this underutilized area as part of HIK Ontwerpers ongoing urban installations series.

Past installations in Utrecht include illuminated poetry light plates, an outdoor public kitchen and a cheeky little car filled with astroturf called “Rent-a-park.“
